Pawapuri

Pawapuri

In Pawapuri, Veerayatan has established an educational hub comprising of:

  1. Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir School–a highly achieving English Medium School.
  2. Harikeshiya School – a school focusing on providing educational opportunities for the most deprived in society.
  3. B.Ed. College – training teachers in delivering quality education with the aim of enhancing educational standards within Bihar.

Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir School

Pawapuri, a prominent pilgrimage place for Jains, where Bhagwan Mahavir attained Nirvana (liberation), is approximately 25 kilometers from Rajgir. With a large inflow of pilgrims, the people of the village have a tendency of begging in the name of charity given by the pilgrims. This act has resulted and transformed this pious place gradually into the darkness of illiteracy, backwardness and extreme poverty. Deeply affected by this situation, Pujya Tai Ma made a resolve to change this.

In 2005 Veerayatan established Tirthankar Mahavir Vidya Mandir (TMVM), a modern primary and secondary education school, providing over 1200 students with the skills and knowledge needed to attain their dreams.

Highlights

  • The school is a CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) accredited English medium school.
  • The girl’s hockey team of TMVM has made us proud to be the first girls’ team in Bihar.
  • The 5 acres of safe haven has drawn hundreds of children off the streets and educates them for a productive life ahead.
  • The school has grown from strength to strength with students doing exceptionally well in their examinations.
  • In this high performing rural school, students are given opportunities to participate in NASA Astronomy Olympiad, National Cyber Olympiad, National Maths Olympiad and National Science Olympiad and, over the years, students have won numerous medals.
  • Students are showcasing their creative talents by participating in various cultural event locally and at national level.

Harikeshiya School

It has been saddening to see that in this pious and sacred land of Pawapuri, discrimination is rife for children from the lowest of the low castes, Musahar caste. To break this cycle of discrimination, Pujya Tai Ma established the Harikeshiya School in Pawapuri in 2017.

People from this community are ignored, discriminated against, with no one wanting to engage with them. Veerayatan, with open arms, has welcomed these children to school and transformed their lives. Parents are encouraged to send children to this school where education is absolutely free. To foster good health and low absenteeism, children are fed a nutritious meal each day.

Highlights

  • The parents have been convinced of the importance of education and have been motivated to send their children to school.
  • To improve access, transportation has been arranged to bring children to school and take them back home.
  • It is great to see how the children of Harikeshiya School and the children from TMVM Pawapuri are integrating so well with the barriers of caste breaking down so quickly!
  • There are children who have done exceedingly well in their studies and are now being sponsored to continue their studies in TMVM.

Veerayatan B. Ed College

Quality and sustainability has always been the motto of Veerayatan’s education projects. In Bihar recruiting well-trained, knowledgeable and qualified teachers has been extremely difficult.

Veerayatan, therefore, established in 2007 a B. Ed College, affiliated to Magadh University, Bodhgaya, with the aim of training teachers not only to teach modern subjects but also to teach the timeless values so that students become good citizens of the world and an asset to their family and society.

The college admits about 100 trainee teachers every year and most of the graduates have subsequently been employed in leading government and private schools throughout the state, thus ensuring the spread of quality education across the state.
